One of the neatest parts of renovation has been finding little treasures in the bones of this house. We haven’t found anything valuable, but we have found a few old playing cards, a vintage pepsi lid, and a postcard.
It’s like time stood still and these little trinkets remained hidden under the floors for decades! We’ve also found a ton of keys. Found isn’t really the right word — inherited is better! The old owner gave us a key ring that’s got almost 25 keys on it, and only 2 of which actually unlock things.
We have no idea what any of these other keys go to. I’m thinking she just never threw any of them away? I got to looking at them and most of them have really unique and cute shapes. These are much cuter than the keys of today!
I had some leftover sample paint that needed to be used, so I add paint to a few of these and created a little shadow box display. It’s not a masterpiece, but it is a fun little reminder of the owner and the entire renovation process.
If you find yourself with a ring full of old keys, you might consider doing the same. It’s very simple. Just dip a few keys in paint, and then use pins to hang in the shadow box. Wallah!
I think I will end up putting this on the built-ins in the front living room as a cute little reminder of the renovation.
