Week 6 of renovations is about halfway through. A ton of progress this week! If you missed it, I posted a home tour of the entire house last Friday on my Facebook page. I recommend watching the first part of it, so you can see exactly how much was done this week.
Last weekend, our kitchen looked like this. You could still see all the wiring, plumbing and the ugly underbelly of the house.
By Monday, the kitchen looked like this.
Andrew hung all the kitchen drywall and it was really starting to feel more like home! The framer also came and put the new window in, and we were finally able to get idea of what the light would feel like in this space.
Originally, the plan was to do as much of the renovation ourselves as we could and we did do a lot on this house, but there are some things you should just leave to the experts. We ended up hiring a small crew to come finish out the drywall and hang the cabinets, and today our kitchen looks like this.
Can you feel it? Can you tell just how amazing this kitchen is going to be?
Let’s go back in time shall we? When we bought the house, the kitchen looked like this.
Obviously we’ve got finishing touches left, but this is a big change!
The next step for the kitchen is painting the cabinets. When I first talked about the kitchen renovation I was sort of torn between two kitchens I loved — one was mostly white and the other had beautiful black cabinets (read the full post here!).
My mom pointed out that the kitchen with black cabinets also had very high end appliances and hardware. Black cabinets just don’t look as nice without the snazzy stainless steel — they just don’t.
So really, in order to get the black cabinets I loved I needed to find a stainless steel range. I thought the range I wanted would be way out of our price range (see what I did there?) but we ended up finding an affordable floor model at the Hahn Appliances Outlet! Yay Hahn!
Now that we have our stainless range, it’s full steam ahead with the black cabinets. In fact, they may be getting painted as soon as next week!
By next Monday this kitchen will look completely different again, and it will be time for countertops and tile.
I hope you got some inspiration for your own homemaking adventures! I’d love to hear what you’re working on — Leave a comment below!
